Description:

51 3/4" x 30 3/4" framed original wool coat display of Judge Roy Bean (1825-1903), eccentric U.S. saloon keeper and Justice of the Peace in Val Verde, TX. Known as "The Law West of the Pecos". Coat is pinned and in solid glass and wood display frame, so coat has not been removed for measuring. However, section of visible coat measures approximately 36"L x 25"W. Some loose threads and small tears. Gray tweed with black lined interior. The name "Byron Bean" is embroidered in red on the interior lining. Byron Bean, great nephew of Judge Roy Bean himself. Transcript of original letter from Byron Bean is framed with coat, along with a binder of documentation that includes Byron's original letter, photocopy of original letter, some firsthand accounts/facts about Judge Roy Bean, additional correspondence and documentation about the coat, and some photos of Byron Bean himself. Two swatches of tablecloth (or possible curtain) from Judge Roy's home are also included. One in display case measures 9 3/4" x 5 1/4", and smaller one in box measures 5 1/4" x 3 1/4". Swatches appear to be in good/decent condition. Deemed authentic, subject to auction house terms.
